Diagonal Resonation
Narrative Spaces with objects from artist’s studio
Diagonal Resonance brought together the works of Qirui Wu and Xinghao Liang, whose practices draw from everyday life but evolve into surreal, dreamlike worlds. The exhibition explored the subtle resonances that emerge between contrasting artistic approaches, creating a space where opposites converse and intersect.
The design transformed the gallery into a multi-layered narrative environment, bringing objects from the artists’ studios into the exhibition. These elements offered visitors insight into the creative process, revealing traces of work before it becomes a finished piece. Gray walls, windows, and corners were intentionally incorporated to form unique site-specific relationships with the artworks, shaping circulation, sightlines, and intimate encounters.
Without using artificial lighting, the atmosphere played a central role: the changing weather—rainy dampness or the heat of a sunny day—became part of the experience, making the artworks feel grounded in everyday life while heightening the emotional texture of the exhibition.
Through this interplay of art, spatial design, and environmental cues, the exhibition invited audiences to inhabit a world that is both immersive and reflective, where process, environment, and narrative converge. Visitors engaged with the artworks on multiple levels, experiencing them as living, evolving encounters rather than static objects.
